1312 Italian Opera from Monteverdi to Puccini Thursday, May 21-July 9, 4-4:05 pm LIMIT: 100 Experience eight online chapters with YouTube sound links and images of composers, singers, and opera theatres, including favorites by Rossini, Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, and Puccini. Not merely an “and then he wrote” series of informal talks, this course will show connections between the music and the times in which it was written. RAFICuban-born Rafael de Acha enjoyed a fifty-year career in the arts as an award-winning actor, stage director, singer, producer, and educator until his retirement in 2010 when he and his wife, Kimberly, moved to Cincinnati. Since then he has moderated courses for OLLI, written on the arts for various online publications, and directed Music for All Seasons, a concert series at Peterloon Estate in Cincinnati. He holds degrees in music from UC-CCM and New England Conservatory of Music.
