Put your bottom down on a seat

Every time I go to the mailbox outside our front door I’m sure to find several fund-raising pieces. They come from all kinds of worthy causes – animal charities, health organizations…you name it.

Many arrive in neat little packets containing return address labels with our name and address on them, post it notes, little calendars…

But other than the big guys – the Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and company I don’t get mail from the small art organizations that happen to be the ones we support with both our dollars and our attendance. These days the little guys here in Cincinnati mostly resort to email, which is just fine if you happen to be in their email list.

So, to help matters some, here is the first of several posts I plan to do over the holidays. Some are simply to announce events taking place down the road in 2017. Some depend on your attendance now.

In either case, please dip into your pocket and buy a couple of tickets or simply send a check as a tax-deductible contribution.

Say “thank you” to any one of the many arts organizations that keep you entertained and stimulated during the year. And remember that you can shop, pay your bills and do on line just about everything that you used to do before in person. The arts cannot be enjoyed on line. They require bottoms on seats.

This December the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and Madcap Puppets brings back their popular production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, featuring larger-than-life puppets.

50 minutes in length and perfect for children of all ages, Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the tale of the shepherd boy Amahl, his mother, and their miraculous, life-changing encounter with Three Wise Men.

Audience members have described Madcap’s puppets as “magical,” due to the ability of the puppeteers to bring these characters to life.
